There is a 20ft container ready and waiting to be filled with vital things for Hands of Love Orphanage and School, the Kampala office and their surrounding communities.
(For list please click here)
This is all thanks to the generosity of Falk Nutec.
If you live locally (Teesside, Northeast England) and have any suitable items you wish to donate ( or any bright ideas for other items ) please contact Shani and Dave Corcoran for more details. If you require items picking up Shani and Dave may be able to assist on occasions. Their phone number is 01642 876707.
If you have any other enquires regarding HoL feel free to phone John or I on
01642 880017.
If anyone has any packing boxes, crates, pallets, etc that they would like to donate that would also be exceptionally helpful.
If you are donating items and find you are able to box them up yourself and stick a contents list to the outside of the box, it would save the HoL team a lot of hard work. If you really cant, don't worry. We are just very grateful for your donation and effort. Thanks.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help with the loading and organising of the container that would be great. Please let Shani and Dave know your contact details.
November 2007 : Falck Nutech appoints Hands of Love as their 2008 Charity
We would like to give a huge thank you to Falck Nutec as they have just confirmed that Hands Of Love will be their appointed charity for 2008! We are not sure what this will mean for the charity, but are very excited and appreciative of their support. They have also promised to send out two parcels to the Orphanage and School for Christmas - One from their Aberdeen branch and one from their Teesside branch. A big THANK YOU.
November 2007: Toilet Block nears Completion

The long awaited toilets should be almost finished. This has been made possible by raising the 2,600 pounds needed. With give much thanks to the following who made this possible:
The Corcoran Family from Eaglescliffe in Stockton on Tees raised 1,300 pounds during a Ladies Pamper Evening. (July)
300 pounds was donated by Lomond Platform B.P. (September)
800 pounds was donated from Falck Nutec. (September)
200 pounds was from other miscellaneous donations.
November 2007: The first brick building almost complete

The first permanent building for storage is almost complete at Hands of Love. Only 200 pounds more is needed so that this structure to store the medicine, supplies, school materials and other valuables can be completed.
July 2007 : Pamper Evening raises 1300 pounds
A big round of applause has to go to the Corcoran Family and friends. Shani organised a Ladies Pamper evening on the 12th July and it was an outstanding success raising over 1200 pounds for Hands of Love. The evening included a raffle, tombola and refreshments along with many local stalls selling everything from hand made chocolate to "Hairy Handbags". A special mention has to go to Jim who raised 175 pounds by allowing his wife to wax his back (she is trained - honest!). We also succeeded in gaining three new child sponsors and one teacher sponsor during the evening.

July 2007 : More Funds Raised by Stephen Harrison
Stephen Harrison from Teesside, ran the Blackpool Marathon in June and has raised 400 pounds for HoL. The money will be used to finish off a small building where they plan to store (and administer) basic medical supplies and teaching materials and the children's school work

July 2007 : Elijah Visits the UK
Elijah Sebuchu has arrived in the UK for his first ever visit. He will be here until the 6th August and so far, has made an inspiring impact on the people he has met. Elijah has also visited the All Saints Mother and Toddler Groups and Preston Primary School in Teesside. He is currently in Portsmouth and will be travelling back to the North East on Monday 16th July. Next week he will be meeting with a local Scout group before travelling up to Dundee on Thursday 19th July. After 9 days in Scotland, Elijah will be making his way back to Teesside for final meetings with the Trustees to create plans for the future. He heads off to London for a couple of days before making the return trip to Uganda on the 7th August.
If you would like to meet Elijah whilst he is in the UK please contact us.
July 2007 : Mercy Mudondo Receives Treatment
Earlier this month, teacher Mercy Mudondo was given the necessary funds to be treated for the terrible Malaria she has been suffering from and has also been supplied with a mosquito net. A couple from Portsmouth came forward to sponsor her with a 15 pounds per month wage.
July 2007 : Pastor Livingstone gets a bicycle
Pastor Livingstone is to be supplied with the bicycle he so much needs, and also a 15 pounds per month sponsorship from a family from Portsmouth.
June 2007 : 50 Most Urgent Medical Cases Receive Treatment
The Corcoran family and friends from Teesside worked very hard during May and June 2007 to raise the 500 pounds desperately needed to fund the 50 most urgent medical cases amongst the children at Hands of Love Orphanage.
The 50 children went to hospital to be examined and treated in two batches : 25 children on Monday 18th and 25 on Tuesday 19th of June.
8 of these children were required to stay in for a further 3 days due to the severity of their conditions. 17 children were allowed to leave more quickly, but have appointments to return soon for further doses of medicines to complete their 2 weeklong treatments.

June 2007 : Sponsorship for head mistress, Ms Sylvia Kyabita
A pioneering couple have decided to sponsor Sylvia Kyabita, head mistress of Hands of Love Orphanage School.

The Portsmouth couple felt strongly that the staff at HoL need to be supported, because if the staff find they cannot continue due to the harsh conditions and lack of food, causing them serious ill health, then the children would suffer further.
These worst fears are being realised sadly : Teacher Mercy Beatrice Mudondo has been ill for a few weeks now, and is becoming worse. There is no funding for her treatment.
Teacher Zainabu Nawanga has been ill with Malaria for a couple of weeks and has had to come away from Hands of Love to stay with her family to be cared for.
May 2007 : Angela and Peter Gray Visit Hands of Love Orphanage
Angela and Peter Gray (John's parents) visited "Hands of Love" just on Friday 18th May 2007.

We've had donations of a lovely mobile phone and two digital cameras for the orphanage to use.
We also now have 78 pounds to go towards the first sewing machine for the orphanage.
Bush Tucker Trial - raised 407 pounds
This was the ultimate in gastronomical challenges! Several brave souls risked their stomachs by eating live mealworms, live waxworms, pig's eyeballs, cod eyeballs, pig's snouts and various other 'delicacies'.
This money will be used to make a documentary about Hands of Love. We aimed to raise 300 pounds so the extra money will used to pay for another slap up meal for all the children.

Easter appeal - raised 281 pounds
This paid for all the children and staff to have their first real meal in 3 months together and transportation (from Kampala city out to the orphanage) of many care packages and parcels of donations sent during January to March.
Since Christmas the children have been surviving on infrequent cups of polage (a maize flour and water mixture) and nothing else, so the Easter meal was extremely welcome
