New fund raising project
The children currently live, sleep and are taught in temporary mud and stick structures which were kindly build by the locals to help the children. Unfortunately these are not adequate. The children have to sleep on the ground and are susceptible to burrowing insects. As there are no foundations to these structures if it rains (and there has been much rain of late) there is a great risk that these structures will collapse and the children then have to sleep and stay outside where they have no protection from the elements. As the weather has been so bad lately in Uganda the children have often been stuck in the rain for days, resulting in some children getting ill. The buildings have now collapsed and some of the children were injured, with one requiring medical treatment. This makes the situation even more urgent.
We desperately require 10,000 pounds to build a four classroom building. This will also provide the children with basic sleeping quarters. This solid structure will help them reduce the incidence of malaria as it will enable mosquito nets to be hung over the children at night.
We hope to start building these structures with some money raised at the Pamper evenings arranged for November in Teesside. Also, we hope the Christmas appeal which means you can "Buy a Brick" as a gift for 5 pounds each will help.
Christmas 2007 Appeal
We have now launched our second Christmas Appeal. This is an opportunity to give your love ones someone really useful and meaningful at this time - a gift to an orphan at Christmas. (Or even for birthdays and other occasions). The leaflet is attached and this means that you will be able to donate money so that a child could receive:
- a care package
- Food
- A school pack
Or you could buy a
- a goat to add to their herd to enable them to eventually use the goats for food and revenue.
- Or a brick to help build the structures they so desperately need.
The receiver of these gifts will receive a certificate to show what has been donated in their name.

More Ways to Help
There are many other ways you can help. We could show you an endless list because there are so many good ideas. Please feel free to use your own but these are some of our suggestions:
- Sponsor a child
-
11 pounds per month option - means your child will eat regular meals, a blanket, basic school equipment (paper, pencils etc).
- 15 pounds per month option - supplies all of the above, but also ensures provision of extra clothing and shoes should your child grow quickly, or their original clothing gets torn/worn out. It also pays for an amazing annual school trip.
- 15 pounds PLUS per month option - is so you can give a regular extra donation alongside your child's sponsorship fee, to support something that you decide upon at Hands of Love.
- All we ask is that you write three times a year to your sponsored child, but you are welcome to send any appropriate toys, clothes etc. (see appropriate gifts)
- Learn more about sponsoring a child
One set of second hand clothing, one uniform and one pair of shoes per year, and is supplied with toothpaste, brushes and soap.
New Feeding Programme
We aim to collect at least 210 pounds a month to ensure that all the unsponsored children at least get one decent meal a month. This maybe an alternative to those who find it hard to sponsor just one child. We already have two individuals donating money month for this cause each month (45.00 pounds) but desperately need more.
Appeal for help - your time and skills
We are so pleased that the charity is growing each day, with more sponsors coming on board and more fund raising activities occurring. However, as we are all volunteers, who receive no money and do this in our spare time, the team in the UK desperately need more help to make this a success. If you feel that you can give us any of your time or you have particular skills which can help us and the children in Uganda, we will be extremely grateful.
